Live a human adventure

An exhilarating and enriching human adventure

Volunteering at Animal Sanctuary Laos is a unique and exciting experience. You will be able to get up close and personal with incredible wild animals, most of which are endangered or threatened with extinction. It will be an opportunity to learn amazing things about animals, nature, and the Lao people.

Take part in humanitarian missions at the sanctuary and live a real adventure. You will work alongside  our friendly, dedicated team as we take actions against  cruelty towards our animal friends.

Beyond the daily work and the different missions carried out, you will be propelled into the heart of the typical Laotian rural life. In a breathtaking natural setting, on the shores of Lake Nam Ngum, you will discover the culture and kindness of the local people, and a lush nature of indescribable beauty.

The area offers countless treasures to explore and activities to do; in your free time, you can take a boat cruise on the lake, explore the beautiful temples, swim in the turquoise waterfalls, hike in the mountains, meet the  tribal people of the area, learn handicrafts from the locals, etc. There is a discovery around every corner and you will not have a minute to be bored.

“Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.

There are a multitude of tasks and missions to accomplish depending on the time of year and your skills.

Your daily activities

There is plenty to do at the sanctuary and the days are full. You’ll start your daily chores at the crack of dawn (around 7am) and finish around 3 pm so you can enjoy the rest of the day relaxing by the lake, enjoying your bungalow, or wandering around the area.

There are a multitude of tasks and missions to accomplish depending on the time of year and your skills. Your assignments will be established with Christophe upon your arrival at the sanctuary. Among the many daily activities that volunteers perform, you will be asked to:

  • Feed the animals

Terms of stay

A volunteer experience at the sanctuary requires real motivation and a genuine interest in the protection and care of animals. The minimum length of stay is 15 days which can be extended to several months for a full immersion experience. Due to the length of training and adaptation, stays of less than 15 days are not accepted. For a shorter stay, please consult our "discovery" and "exploration" packages.

All-inclusive stays

Our volunteer packages are all-inclusive. You will be accommodated in beautiful private bungalows, in the middle of nature with breathtaking views of the sanctuary and the Nam Ngum Lake. As for food, our "volunteering" packages are full board, and include 3 delicious local meals served to you each day. This is an opportunity to discover the real gastronomy of the region and to chat with the sanctuary team.

Visa for Laos

No specific type of visa is required for the 15-day and 1-month programs. You can enter Laos with a tourist visa and join us at the sanctuary. For longer stays (60 days to several months), our sanctuary will take care of obtaining a "worker" visa so that you can remain in the territory in compliance with Laotian laws. A trial period of one month is always required before issuing you a long-term visa.

Amazing experience with Christophe and the animals. I have been volunteering there for several months and it is the most beautiful experience of my life. The sanctuary is located on the edge of a large lake where the animals live in peace in a space appropriate to their needs, they are cared for and fed with attention and love. Christophe the manager of this beautiful place knows perfectly the history of the animals that live there. I highly recommend it to all visitors or volunteers who wish to come to Laos.
